Firstly, let me wish you a very happy New Year and secondly welcome you to the first Weekly Photowalk Challenge of 2017! I hope you managed to get out and about over the holidays taking some snaps and enjoying the lovely winter views. We covered a lot of ground and had a load of adventures over the holidays and while I write it all up you can get a snippet of it here in my ‘Not a New Year Resolution Post‘ post.
Yes OK, I know it is Wednesday but who doesn’t take a while to get back into the swing of things after the holidays? I did post it over on Instagram on Monday (If you’re not following, please do here as I often get things up there before I do here!)
Rainy, rainy, drizzle, drizzle
With all the drizzle and rain that have been coming and going in waves, it gave me the inspiration to have this week’s theme as ‘Water‘. It has to be outside water though, not a picture taken through the window while you sit inside supping on a hot tea! These Weekly Photowalk Challenges are to encourage you to wrap up, grab a brolly (or whatever you need depending on our random weather) and to head outside to take a walk and explore wherever you are. Then capture some pictures on your adventure linked to the theme to share over on Instagram.
As you can see from my picture(s) of us, we don’t let the weather get us down or keep us in!
One of my favourite quotes is:
“There is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing”
~ Sir Ranulph Fiennes
And to me, it is SO true! If you’re wearing warm layers, waterproof coats and bring along a brolly, you will find that getting out in the rain is fun! (Think splashing about in puddles in your wellies!)
So really, there is no excuse! Especially as it is the new year and there are loads of spaces and places around you still to be discovered and explored!
The Weekly Photowalk Challenge
As always here are the mild rules to the game!
What the challenge is:
- A great way to get outside
- A fun way to explore where you live/work/are
- Some time away from the hustle and bustle of life
- Something to get you thinking about your area differently
- An opportunity to get snapping some pictures, no matter what level you’re at – this is about fun!
What the challenge is not:
- An opportunity to just dig through old pictures and not get out and about walking, exploring and taking in the fresh air and sights!
So here are the rules!
So here’s the thing. Each week I will share a theme and when you accept the challenge you need to get out and about and take a photo that matches with the theme. Simple as that really! The idea is to get you out and about in the outdoors, exploring and looking for things that you would normally miss while doing your every day activities. It is purposeful in the way that it takes you out, gets you active and opens your mind and awareness to the things in the world around you by getting you to seek out things that match the theme.
And there is no limit to how many walks you take or how many pictures you take either!
Kind of like a visual or photographic treasure hunt!
- Follow me here, on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram to find out the theme for the week
- Go out on an adventure taking some photos that link to the theme and tell as story about your quest.
- Share them on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the tag #TUWPhotowalk (so that I can find the pics)
- And enjoy checking out other people’s journeys too.
To get your creative juices flowing, here are some of my old photos to give you an idea of what to take! Remember, they have to be new photos though! No cheating by sitting in with a brew scrolling through old shots!!
It is up to you how you use the theme of ‘Water‘ in your photos but they have to be from an outside adventure! So get into the appropriate clothing, head out into your local area and get exploring!
I can’t wait to see your pictures and take a glimpse into your adventures wherever you may take them!
Sharing is caring!
PS: If you know other people who would like to get involved, please do share with post with them! I’d love to have more people taking outside adventures and joining in with The Urban Wanderer Weekly Photowalk Challenge.
Perhaps you or a friend is taking part in the Country Walking magazine #Walk1000miles Challenge and want some encouragement to get out there? This is a great why to get out there, have some fun, learn more about where you live as well as getting to share your snaps and boost those miles!
